Home Sweet Home
Came back from Shanghai late last night. The Would Expo was not as spectacular as I imagined, perhaps I had too high of an expectation. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience nonetheless, and I did manage to see some awe-inspiring architectures. Glad to be home, it’s through traveling that I realize where home is.
Pre-Expo
All packed up for my trip to Shanghai for the World Expo tomorrow. I don’t seem to be as excited as I used to be after being imbued by the intensive media coverage. Enthusiastic nonetheless as I’ve never been to the World Expo before, and this year’s theme of “Better City, Better Life” will definitely […]
Shelf Doors
Added some coverings for my studio’s shelve. Like many of my DIY projects, it took much longer than I initially planned. But it’s worth the effort, I can now use it to display whatever images I can dream up. Nice furniture should be made to last, the ability to re-skin it to suit different contexts […]
Summer Vacation Starts Today!
Submitted my paper on “Mitigating Air Pollution with Architecture in Hong Kong” today. There were at least 3 months for me to work on it, but I barely did any work until the last two weeks, all the other time were wasted on procrastination. I don’t know why I just can’t get myself to start […]
Bauhinia Blakeana
Recently, I started noticing the vivid pink and purple colors dotted all over the streets of HK. It’s the blooming season for the city’s floral emblem. I remember stumbling upon a small park which had tens of Bauhinia trees planted, so I made an effort to visit it again expecting to see something like the […]
Fotanian Open Studios 2010
The dark streets, the industrial buildings, and the smell of machinery gave me a bit of a Déjà Vu this afternoon when I was aimlessly visiting the different open studios of Fotanian. I remember when I was young, my parents would occasionally bring me to their industrial flats because there was no one to look […]
Moving On From….. the Copenhagen UN Climate Summit
It was freezing cold at the BYOB forum on Sat. evening, I was shivering while listening to the panels discuss issues about climate change. What stirred me most was the way one of the panels reacted to a question from the floor. I can sense his passion and love of nature. Yes, how can we […]
Guangdong, China
My Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing day this year were spent on a tour to Guangzhou with my family. It must have been at least a few years since I’ve stayed in China for that long, it was a rather stimulating experience. Despite being warned previously, I didn’t expect the air quality could be […]
bodw & BYOB
I was carrying with me a fair bit of expectation entering the bodw show, but I left during the break right after the first presentation by Hermés. I believe there’s value in good design, but there’s something I disgust about luxurious goods, I just can’t stand the way people spending so much money buying them […]
Not Too Weary Journey
As I grew older, I started to hate traveling on the plane, especially for long flights. I can’t sleep well on the plane and I can’t quite bear the smell/taste of airplane food (cup noodle is an exception). My flight back to HK this time was not as weary as I anticipated. Although I still […]
