Contingency Plan
The political and economic situation in the city continue to spiral down since the National Security Law for HK was proposed last week and unilaterally passed this week. I started asking my friends to hear their thoughts. A couple plans to hasten their plan to emigrate to Taiwan, another friend asked about renewing their colonial […]
Living with COVID-19?
Feeling a bit low this week… Just when I thought the masked days are nearing end, a few local COVID-19 cases of unknown origin broke our city’s 23 consecutive days of zero local cases. Experts foresee that we may need to adapt and coexist with the virus for quite some time and urge everyone to […]
Valentine’s Day
Spent the Valentine’s Day in the studio listening to TED Talks while cutting cardboards. Cutting cardboards because I’m in the process of designing and fabricating my first piece of furniture. There was solitude in the simple and repetitive work, I imagined that Jesus might had this similar feeling when he was serving as a carpenter. […]
Cork Shelf Doors
Was late for fellowship tonight as I was caught up with finishing installing the last row of shelf doors in my home studio. Took me a while, but glad that one part of my big studio re-modelling project is finally completed.
Cork Shelf Doors
Was debating what to do this afternoon, took a stroll around goldfish street, then flowers market, and ended up going to an art supplies shop to buy cork boards. Spent most of my day cutting and installing another row of cork shelf doors. Have a lot of ideas in my head on how to refurnish […]
Cork Shelf Doors
The bball gathering didn’t take place today because we were 1 person short, so I had the whole day all to myself. Decided to indulge myself with some DIY fun. Went out for lunch and then shopped for materials, then I spent the rest of the sweaty afternoon replacing a row of my shelf with […]
Cleanup
I disliked the roman blinds that was installed in my bedroom, they completely blocked the operable windows and discouraged natural ventilation and daylighting. After 2 years of occasional visual/psychological annoyance, I finally replaced them with rolling screens, they filter (rather than block) strong direct sunlight and leaves the operable windows operable even when they’re lowered. […]
Turning Point
The 3 kids in the house had finally moved back to their renovated apartment last week, tranquility was once again experienced after ~2 months! Reclaimed my bedroom so I no longer had to sleep in my home studio, it’s nice to be able to physically separate the work and rest area once again. Had kept […]
Cardboard DIY Crafts
Frank Gehry’s Wiggle Chair had a major influence on me. The creativity and craftsmanship involved in transforming a common discarded material into something so gorgeous and yet functional is simply ingenious! I’ve been experimenting a great deal in upcycling corrugated cardboard into plant pots, file holders, iPhone stands, boxes, etc. Yet my greatest encouragement in […]
Greening My Studio III
Spent much of my last week designing and assembling a miniature stone garden for my studio’s window shelf. Due to my lack of care, a lot of the bonsai plants given during class already looks like they’re dying with much of their leaves lost. Hopefully, with more tender care, they’ll be revived and bud out […]
