End of CNY
The spirit of Chinese New Year has slowly faded away. The festive pink, red, and gold ornaments dressing the city are quickly disappearing, gesturing goodbye to the most vibrant holiday of the year; I peeled off the greetings outside my studio door and counted my red pockets, wondering what the Year of the Rabbit will […]
<>
The cold and gloomy weather in the last couple of days was particularly suited to do some reading in my cozy studio. Felt like I’m finally able to switch to full research mode for my dissertation. I desperately need the concentration if I were to complete it by the end of March as planned. Had […]
Cold Gloomy Sunday
It’s a cold and rainy Sunday. Arrived church early as it was my sister and brother-in-law’s turn to serve. Went to our usual family dim sum following Sunday Service. And after that, we went to visit my uncle. It was my first time seeing him since his surgery, he seemed well and healthy, thank God! […]
Receipts
I have the habit of saving the receipts of my purchases. Within a year or so, the collection is more than enough to create a huge stuffed origami ball! The ball will serve as a self-reminder to move away from the materialistic lifestyle, and to only buy things that I need and not things that […]
Big Cleanup
According to the lunar calendar, today is the day to do cleanups before the Chinese New Year. Spent much of my afternoon pruning my plants, tending my aquarium, and dusting and sweeping my studio. It’s been awhile since my desk is this organized.
Neon Tetras
Bought a batch of 40+ tiny neon tetras on my way back home yesterday. A couple of them died, but the rest seems rather jolly in my small aquarium (rather big from the fish’s perspective). The tank seems so much more vibrant and interesting with these new inhabitants!
Green Building
Read the <<Green Building Award 2010>> earlier, nice to see green buildings gaining momentum. Also skimmed through the BEAM+ documents in the last couple of days in preparation for a workshop starting this weekend, I can see how these certification schemes can suck the life out of architects’ imagination and creativity – luring them to […]
Green Wall
Had a chance to visit a large indoor green wall installation designed by Patrick Blanc tonight. I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be, but it’s still a very pleasant experience. I want to experiment with a small version of this green wall in my studio later, without using artificial lights of course! […]
Christmas Card
Was up until 5am working on my Christmas card, interesting how time flies when I’m absorbed in my work. It was my first time doing ink & wash and watercolor since returning to HK, brought back good memories of the late-night project crunching time for my cartooning/illustration night courses. Will email the card out tomorrow, […]
Greening My Studio IV
Continuing my long quest in greening my studio, I’ve spent much of my day pruning and potting plants. A new member to the miniature rock garden is a dwarf Christmas tree, it should be interesting seeing it mature Christmas after Christmas. The weather is still cold today, temperature never went above 10 degrees. Went out […]
