Dissertation
Decided to change my dissertation topic to one that I felt more interested to investigate, glad that it was approved today. I hope to find out how high-density cities fair in the many facets of sustainability. Lots to reading and writing in the coming months…
Green Wall
Had a chance to visit a large indoor green wall installation designed by Patrick Blanc tonight. I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be, but it’s still a very pleasant experience. I want to experiment with a small version of this green wall in my studio later, without using artificial lights of course! […]
To-do Lists
Started writing down my daily to-do lists on square pieces of paper early this year. Each piece documents 1 week of to-dos. Now close to the year-end, I almost have enough folds to complete an origami ball! Year-end is a period for reflection. The ability to reflect and learn from experience is part of what […]
Christmas Card
Was up until 5am working on my Christmas card, interesting how time flies when I’m absorbed in my work. It was my first time doing ink & wash and watercolor since returning to HK, brought back good memories of the late-night project crunching time for my cartooning/illustration night courses. Will email the card out tomorrow, […]
Greening My Studio IV
Continuing my long quest in greening my studio, I’ve spent much of my day pruning and potting plants. A new member to the miniature rock garden is a dwarf Christmas tree, it should be interesting seeing it mature Christmas after Christmas. The weather is still cold today, temperature never went above 10 degrees. Went out […]
Cold Night
It’s only 12 degrees outside and will likely drop further to below 10 degrees according to forecast. To winter-proof my studio’s aquarium, I’ve added a layer of dark gravel in the tank to absorb more radiant heat during the day. Also set up a few candles on the side to provide some active heating. The […]
Independent Study – Submitted!
My desk hasn’t been this messy for a long time! I kind of like it this way however, it’s visual proof that I had been busy. Had been locking myself up to work on my independent study for more than a week now, just submitted the paper, RELIEF!!
Urban Climatology
Finished my assignment for the course on Urban Climatology, 3 weeks before the due date, an impressive record for my standard! Have learned a fair bit about urban climate, I now understand the causes for lower wind speed and higher air temperature in urban areas. The urban heat island effect is especially alarming in midst […]
Aquarium II
I’ve been making slight modifications to the small aquarium in my studio since late August, and the latest addition is a batch of Cherry Shrimps acquired last week. Together with snails, tiny catfishes, and lots of vegetation, the aquarium is evolving into a small freshwater ecosystem! The aquarium is my main source of visual entertainment […]
My Home Studio
Little by little, in the course of about a year, I’ve slowly transformed an empty room at home into my studio – the place where I happily spend my 9 to 5. Although there are still many things I want to experiment with the space, I probably won’t be spending too much time on it […]
