Creative Monday

IMG_0375Gave myself one last day to reminisce the earlier Hawaii vacation by going through the photos in the afternoon.  I do kind of miss seeing the ubiquitous and boundless horizon of the Pacific Ocean and the spontaneous exploration of the Big Island with a couple of newly met friends.

Started another 3-month weekly oil painting course tonight, can’t keep track of how many times I’ve repeated this very same course, but I’m still very much enjoying the 2-hour of indulgence in painting.  I was also very happy to find my previous paintings in the studio, I was worried that they might be lost.

Running

Went for my weekly dose of endorphin, jogged for a full 10k in 67 minutes.  I experimented with a new psychological exercise while jogging today, for each of the laps, I tried to recall the memories when I was at the age equal to the number of laps I had finished.  I jogged for a total of 17 laps, so I had let my memories ran free all the way till I was 16/17 – the age when I finished grade 11 (F.5) and moved back to Canada to further my studies.

Memories are always rosier, even the very rare bad experience in life can put a little smirk on my face.  Most of my memories seemed to be centered around my friends, I feel fortunate and blessed to cross path with many good friends in life, and there are actually a few of whom I still keep in touch with after 20+ years!

My jog seemed to be more interesting with this mental exercise, it now seemed more like a journey back in time, full of blessings and joy.

IMG_0364My sister highly recommended me to watch a movie, went to watch it in the afternoon after realizing an exhibition I wanted to go got postponed.  It did not disappoint.

The movie is a small locally produced film about teens doing what they love and pursuing their hip-hop dancing dreams.  It was full of energy and positive vibes.  It got me dreaming again…

I had been telling my sister and everyone I caught up with about how wonderful my earlier Hawaiian trip was, in a way I was actually complaining about the city I reside in.  This movie was a good reminder that there are many things to be proud of my birth city – its people and talents, its limitless energy,…

Now back to my dreams…

Creative Monday

photoResumed my Creative Mondays.  Missed the previous 2 painting classes because of the Hawaiian trip, so I went to class early tonight to play catch up.  Painted more than 3 hours straight, made my best attempt to paint what the instructor claimed to be a difficult painting.

Other than the slightly crooked shape, I think the piece doesn’t look too bad.

I was probably too focused tonight, found out that I didn’t have my last painting (i.e. “lazy dog”) with me after I got home, hopefully I’ll find it lying somewhere in the classroom when I attend class next week.

Running

It’s been more than a month since I last ran.  Ran for about 6k, felt like I could run more, but didn’t want to push myself.

The evening temperature is finally beginning to fall below 30 degrees, it’s about time to train up myself again.  Doubt that I can actually run a half marathon as I planned at the beginning of the year, instead I’ll try to run another 10k again and get my time to below 60 minutes.

Rested a little after the run while watching people (mostly teens) play soccer, I was reminded of my highschool “street soccer” days, scenes were familiar yet I felt a little distant from this busy city.  Ever since I got back from my Hawaiian trip, the sense that I don’t belong to this city seems to have grown stronger.  I’m quite certain that it was God’s good will to bring me back to my birth city 4 years ago, but why?

Back To Reality

Slept at around midnight and woke up at around 6am this morning, still jet-lagging a little I suppose.  Decided to pull myself back to the office today.  Cleared up my email inbox and caught up with my news feeds.

Spent my yesterday going through the hundreds of photos I took during the Hawaiian trip, gave myself one last day to savour the wonderful experience.  I think I’m feeling the post-vacation depression, can’t seem to stop myself from constantly reminiscing the moments of joy from the trip.

There’s this saying: “Rest… for the purpose of traveling greater distances”.  The week-long vacation did provide me with some much needed rest (and joy) from the hectic life in the city, now’s time to get back to reality and continue with life’s marathon race.

August 25th

Something seems to be special about August 25th. It was this day 4 years ago that I moved back from Toronto to HK, and here I am 4 years later waiting for my flight back to HK and putting an end to my awesome Hawaiian vacation.

I just can’t seem to escape from the busy, noisy, and suffocating city for long.

Hawaii Trip – Day 7

Had an amazing day! Actually made a round trip of the Big Island. Stopped by a turquoise water beach, visited a botanical garden, and saw an active volcano crater. And to top it all off, we saw the most breathtaking night sky with countless stars and Milky Way!

This trip has unexpectedly turned out to be one of my best trip ever!

Hawaii Trip – Day 6

Revisited a couple of places down South (Black Sands Beach & Southernmost Point) as I lost all the photos taken there on my previous visit. Glad I went back as I saw sea turtles this time and the sunset was not veiled by clouds.

Also visited the Green Sands Beach for the first time with a couple of my new met friends. I almost lost my car key on the bumpy 4×4 ride. Got really worried at one point, but found out later that it was just dropped inside the 4×4. I’m thankful that I wasn’t traveling alone this time because my friends can at least drive me back to the hotel if I really did lose my keys. Besides, my new met friends are really fun to hang out with!
