Hawaii Trip – Day 5

Played the part of an amateur wedding photographer for my friend, find it rather difficult to capture people’s split-second expressions. I did try my best to capture as many smiles as I possibly could, and there were quite a few sweet genuine smiles I saw through the camera’s eyepiece. Happy to be able to witness and share my friend’s joyous celebration.

I have now accomplished my mission for this trip, now free to do more exploring of the Big Island for 2 more full days!

Hawaii Trip – Day 4

Went to the Punaluu Black Sand Beach in the afternoon and tried capturing some powerful wave action with my camera. Then drove to the southernmost point of the island just before sunset. Spent quite some time there to capture the breathtaking view of the boundless Pacific Ocean.

The drive back in the dark was a little on the dangerous side, and I’m thankful that I got back to the hotel safely.

I was so eager to download all the photos, but found out that there was a malfunction with the camera’s memory card, there’s a chance that I may have lost all the magnificent photos I took today! If that’s the case, I may just be left with this photo taken from my phone.

Hawaii Trip – Day 3

Finished reading the camera manual, finally started exploring the island and practice what I’ve learnt about shutter speed, aperture, exposure,…

Hit the beach (Hapuna Beach) in the afternoon. Then decided to get to the Northernmost point of the island before sunset, but drove passed it without knowing. Accidentally ended up at the Pololu Valley Lookout, which fortunately also has a breathtaking scenery!

Got a little lost on the return trip and drove an extra half hour or so. Must have driven for at least 3 hours today, but it was all good, I was reminded of the fun of driving.

Hawaii Trip – Day 2

Slept like a baby last night, it was probably the best quality of sleep I’ve had in recent years! Even without an alarm, I woke up early and enjoyed a relaxing complimentary breakfast at the hotel.

Took a short walk behind the hotel after breakfast, I was surprised to find a great variety of exotic plants and animals, the dormant environmental scientist within me got quite excited and took many pictures.

Hawaii Trip – Day 1

After 3 flights, and a hectic search for car rentals, I’ve finally arrived safely at the hotel in Kona, Hawaii!

Barely slept on the plane rides, really tired now, will sleep early tonight.

All Packed Up

20130818-003656.jpgFinally finished packing for my little Hawaiian vacation! Barely slept last night in order to pack as there wasn’t much time to do so today due to friends’ gatherings.

I’m actually heading there for a friend’s wedding, but it would be silly of me to travel such long distance without staying for a bit. I decided to give myself a week of vacation to temporarily relocate myself from the hustle and bustle of the city and embrace the sunshine, the ocean, and nature. Will probably be able to spend some quality alone time to sit back, relax, think, to do a little soul searching, count my blessings, and hopefully get a better understanding of God’s purpose in me.

Will also take some time to learn about photography. I borrowed my brother’s DSLR and downloaded the manual to my tablet. Will be doing a little experimentation and learning a little more about the photo medium. Hopefully, some quality shots would be resulted from the trip.

It’s been more than 2 years since I boarded on a plane, feeling a little anxious and yet excited.

Simplified Week

Life has become routine and simple again this week.  Other than my spontaneous and creative Monday, everyday seemed to be about the same – started with a light breakfast at home, then work at the office, followed by dinner at home, a little TV, shower, brush up, devotion, and sleep.

Saturday was the highlight of the week.  Went to play a little pickup basketball with my highschool friends in the morning.  It wasn’t competitive at all as a couple of us were recovering from injury and I myself simply haven’t played bball at all for probably more than a year.  It was an enjoyable time nonetheless.  Had the opportunity to catch up with another group of friends that night, nothing seemed to have changed much since the last time we met more than a month ago, there were laughters and there were joy.

This coming week may become less routine again as there are a few things that I need to get done before boarding a plane for my long awaited Hawaiian vacation next weekend.

Aftermath Of Competition

Started working from home again since my mother was injured early July.  And for the last week or so I even moved in to sleep in my home studio to focus on completing the submission for the architecture design competition.  Worked restlessly – there wasn’t a night I slept before 3am, and I even pulled an all-nighter (can’t remember the last time I did that!).  I enjoy every moment of the process.

I have a track-record of doing things the last minute, and this time was no exception.  I worked till the very last minute and had to ask my brother-in-law to drive me to submit the work.  Thankful that I made it in time.

The week had been a wonderful and imaginative detour from work, I’m really thankful to be able to take the time off and to focus on something I enjoy doing.

Slept for more than 12 hours the night after I submitted the design, I seemed to have recovered quickly from the lack of sleep.  And now that my mother is more or less recovered, I tidied and moved out of my ‘cave’ and started working in the office again today.

It’s been close to a month since I left the office, everything seems to be the same, but it’s somewhat of a new start for me.
