The typhoon Usagi didn’t make as much of an impact as expected, all typhoon signals were cancelled before noon. I went to the studio and made a couple of sketches in the afternoon.
My Creative Monday was concluded with my weekly oil painting class at night. Spoke very few words for the entire day, enjoyed the quiet indulgence in art.
Other than weekly watering, it’s been months since I spent time on taking care of the many succulents I planted at home. Went to the Flower Market after lunch and bought 3 new succulents and a tiny bonsai tree. Played with dirt for the entire afternoon, felt slightly more intimate with nature.
It was a really hot and sunny day, I can sense just how crazy the approaching typhoon Usagi will be. The silence before the storm.
Took a day off to go see the winning entries of the GIFT Competition. It was nice to see all the marvelous works of local talents, my entry was a bit of a joke in comparison.
There was time to spare in the afternoon, I bought some supplies and eagerly went straight to the studio to indulge myself with art. It’s been years since I sketched using conté, it’s arguably the best sketching medium! I think I was trying to recreate my life drawing class experience in the studio, I kind of miss those weekend classes when I would do nothing but sketch in the studio.
Plan to take tomorrow off as well because Friday is a public holiday, don’t want to go back to the office and start a new project and then put it aside until next week. It’s probably better to start everything fresh and new next week!
Had a particular productive Creative Monday today! In addition to my regular weekly oil painting class at night, I attempted my first ever graffiti work in the afternoon!
The reason that I could do graffiti is that I’ve finally found a dirty and under-utilized industrial flat as studio space! I plan to set up a little area to paint, another area to draft/sketch, and then leave much of the other space for DIY or experimental work.
I don’t remember for how long I’ve been wanting to have such a studio space, but I was never actively seeking for one as I doubt that I can make enough money via art to pay for the rent. My parents were very supportive, they actually got the space for me, and my father even helped me move some of the junk there while I was vacationing in Hawaii! Feel exceptionally thankful!
I was just telling a friend on FB how I missed many hiking opportunities because I prefer to rest at home on weekends, but this weekend turned out to be one of my busiest in recent days.
Woke up early yesterday for my friend’s wedding. Being a groomsman, it was an all day event. In contrast to the leisure and relaxing wedding I attended in Hawaii earlier, the wedding yesterday was fully packed. Both the groom and the bride had spent a large portion of time during the evening banquet to sing and dance to entertain the guests, I can only imagine how much time and effort they had spent to rehearse prior to the wedding. If I ever get marry, I would definitely choose something similar to the cozy and relaxing Hawaiian wedding. And I’ll probably choose Banff as the destination, for its most breathtaking scenery and homey experience (yes, I still very much consider Canada to be my other home).
Woke up early again this morning for a badminton competition. As expected, our team lost all games, but it was still fun, and I even had a little friendly chat with our competing team after the game. This is one of the reasons why I like sports and art, they are a friendly international language without the need of words.
