Soccer

Played 3 hours of soccer on a rainy night.  My big toes are hurting and my bones are aching, but it feels good. One of these days I shall start some regular training and get myself into shape…

Mother’s Day

Last year for Mother’s Day, we bought flowers for my mother and resulted in her whining about how the flowers would wilt in a week and we were wasting money, even though there was an obvious smile on her face.  This year, I decided to buy her orchids, something I’ve been wanting to try cultivating […]

Dissertation

Finally started the actual writing of my dissertation, 286 words completed and 9714 more to go!  Will continue the work tomorrow… This whole dissertation had dragged on far longer than I anticipated.  I thought that by locking myself up for a few weeks would heighten my focus and productivity, but the effect seems negligible.  I’m […]

Nature is a limitless source of design inspirations.  Can cities be designed to be sustainable by mimicking natural ecosystems that is inherently healthy, zero waste, self-regulating, resilient and self-renewing, and adaptable?  A very appealing concept, but seems to be lacking concrete measurable progress indicators. Played soccer with my highschool friends tonight, perhaps my last social […]

Feeling the urgency of my dissertation, I started rejecting social gatherings like soccer last night and badminton tonight. Continued my readings for the dissertation.  Learned about Sustainable Urbanism – an attempt to unify concepts of Smart Growth, New Urbanism, and Green Buildings.

Re-evaluating my dream life now, I want to live in a relaxed, convivial, and sustainable neighborhood where my friends are at walkable distances.  With […]

A Happy Day

Played basketball, watered my plants, tended my aquarium, read a book – my definition of a happy Saturday.  And the day was made pleasurable only while knowing that nothing serious was found on my mother’s MRI report!

Soccer

Played soccer under the Lion Rock this evening.  There were more people than usual, even our pastor played!  I spent a fair bit of time on the sideline dribbling the ball on my own, I can easily spend all day trying to tame the ball, just like my days in UW when the Columbia field […]

Extra Day-off

Gave myself an extra “day-off” before locking myself up for the rest of the week to work on my dissertation.  Went shopping and bought some assassin snails to hopefully control the nuisance snail infestation in my studio’s aquarium. Played 3.5 hours of badminton tonight, a personal record.  I’ll probably be too tired to leave home […]

The cold and gloomy weather in the last couple of days was particularly suited to do some reading in my cozy studio.  Felt like I’m finally able to switch to full research mode for my dissertation.  I desperately need the concentration if I were to complete it by the end of March as planned. Had […]
