Studio Renovation IV

Day 4 – Finished painting the wall, my biggest piece of artwork ever!

Time flies when I’m working in the studio, was a little late arriving at fellowship tonight.  Good thing I didn’t miss the programme.  We welcomed a few guest speakers to talk about career, something I’ve been thinking a lot lately.  I seem to be at the crossroad of deciding a career in art & design (something I enjoy doing but very difficult to make a living) or internet programming (something I’m proficient with but not as enjoyable doing).  Do I actually need to choose?  Or can I do both?  What do I see myself doing 5 years from now?  Hmm…

Day 3 – Attempted my first real graffiti… FAILED.  Realized that spray paints are incredibly difficult to control.  Now need to do a little remediation tomorrow…

Studio Renovation II

Continuing my studio renovation…

Day 2 – Added some shelving and started painting the wall.  Chose red as the background color because I wanted something sharp.  Planning to attempt my first real graffiti work on top, already bought a couple of spray paints, but still not sure about the visuals…

Studio Renovation

Plan to give my studio a little renovation this week…

Day 1 – Started assembling some IKEA furniture delivered this afternoon, it now has the large desk space I’ve always wanted!  I plan to keep one side clean and organized while the other side can stay messy with whatever work I happen to be indulging in for the period of time.

Creative Monday

Got a free ticket to see an art exhibition today.  It seems to be targeting at the very wealthy art collectors, and I find it amusing that many foreign galleries (Paris, London, New York, etc.) are here selling arts made by native Chinese artists, it seems as through they’re trying to make a fortune off of ancient Chinese artists who were usually quite poor.  Despite being confused about how the premium art sector works, I feel fortunate to see some true masterpieces up close.

Dropped off some stuff at the studio before heading to my evening oil painting class.  Finished my painting of a ladybug, although it’s nothing near as good as what I saw at the exhibition, I think it is my best piece thus far.

Creative Monday

IMG_0077My Creative Mondays are becoming more and more routine – sketching in the studio in the afternoon followed by oil painting class in the evening.  Still very much enjoying it.

Tai O Day Trip

Father was invited by friends to pay a visit to Tai O, my mother, sister, brother-in-law, and I decided to join.  I was there mainly just to stroll around, take a little breather, and shoot some photos.

Enjoyed the tranquility and took some lovely photos of the local flora and fauna.

Holiday Starts!

Restarted work on a website for my church’s new branch.  The project was initiated last year, but had been on hold for much of the time.  Spent a lot of time on the website this week, it should now be very close to being able to launch, really hope that the project won’t drag on for too long.

Was invited to help design a couple of posters and CNY’s gifts for my church, looks like I’ll be spending a fair bit of time doing design work in the coming months.  I do enjoy doing design work, it takes me away from the mundane and tiring web coding tasks.  Thankful for the many opportunities to design for my church and fellowship.  These two bible verses always seem to pop up in my mind whenever I do design:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  (Ephesians 2:10)

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”  (1 Peter 4:10)

I’ve worked considerably hard this week, now’s time to play hard!  With coming Tuesday being public holiday, and Monday being set aside for creative works, I’ll be having a little holiday in coming days, starting with a short day trip with my family tomorrow! =)
