Day 9

Visited the controversial occupied area in Mong Kok after my painting class…

In contrast to last Monday where there was no single police in sight, a lot more police force was on duty tonight in the occupied area.  Despite the chain of violent events from “opponents” and the urge from Government and many honoured people to leave the area, a lot of people of the peaceful demonstration decided to stay.

I salute to their perseverance while at the same time worried about their safety.  Pray that they can keep up with their displayed self-control in facing “opponents”, and I also pray that the Police force can act justly to cease and act upon violence without being blinded by politics.

Day 8 – “Heavens on Earth?”

3rd consecutive night visiting the peaceful rally in Admiralty, spent a little more time to stroll around and photograph what I see…

The peaceful rally seemed to have transformed the Government Headquarter area into a little community – streets were occupied by peaceful and polite locals sharing vibrant talks and conversations instead of the usual polluting cars and loud tourists with their big luggages; I also saw a great public space utilised by an unusual large number of citizens, there were open public lectures/talks, creative public art, and the sharing of goods. It felt a little like “Heavens on Earth”.

The government kept on urging the peaceful demonstrators to leave so that people can return to their “normal” lives, but what if we make what I saw tonight our new normal life? Wouldn’t we have a better and greener community?

“He ate Grandma!”

Could this be the Government’s bloody and crooked way to teach us what is unity (齊心) and family (香港是我家)? Let’s teach him

Darkest Darkest Day in HK

[Day 6] – I thought 20140928 was the darkest day in HK, I couldn’t be more wrong.

Not only do I see a government who uses weaponry against its own unarmed people, I now see a cold and relentless government who is willing to jeopardize the trust between its police and its people, something that takes years to build up, shattered.  SHAME ON YOU!!

But yet I see glimpse of hope through the sea of people peacefully gathering protecting what’s precious for our city…

Commissioned Family Portrait

A commissioned drawing for a friend’s 10th Anniversary.  Admitted not good at drawing portraits, I did the best I could.  There’s much room for improvement.

Darkest Day in HK

Was determined to be an eyewitness of the “Big Banquet” because I didn’t want my perception to be tainted by the media.  I was however too coward to be in the action, so I took a stroll away from the crowd and police to do a little reflection in solitude…

It wasn’t true solitude as I have one of my ears plugged-in listening to the radio for breaking news.  I was also constantly receiving concerning messages from family and friends telling me to stay safe.  It was heart-warming, I was reminded that I’m not alone even in solitude.

I didn’t get a taste of tear gas as many civilians did, but tears occasionally ran down my cheek as I hear news of Government Police using weapons against its own armless citizens.  A few government officials made open speeches afterwards attempting to legitimize their actions.  And all our Chief Executive C.Y. Leung can tell  the citizens is to safely go home so that traffic won’t be affected for the next working day.  Seriously?!  You have all these injured, tired, and unsettled citizens whom you consider “family”, and all you can think of is a normal working day?!

I would probably leave this city I thought I knew if it weren’t for my parents.  Knowing that I won’t be leaving, is there anything I can do to help the situation?

Student Protest Livestream

Staying up late watching the livestream(http://bit.ly/occupycentral) of the last day of students’ week-long “Boycotting Class for Democracy”. Kind of wished I was there to support the students. But what possibly can I do even if I’m there physically?

Praying for serenity and courage, peace and justice…

p.s. Last time I stayed up to watch something live was World Cup back in July.
