Time

IMG_0813The watch that I have been wearing for close to 7 years stopped running today, it was a gift from my brother given when I visited HK in X’mas 07′.  I’m guessing the battery ran out.  But since a little bit of the glass face was chipped off, I figured this would be a good time to get a new one.  I know what I’ll be getting myself for Christmas this year. =)

In support of the student’s campaign “Boycotting Class for Democracy”, I searched though my old photos that were scanned into the computer before I moved back to HK ~5 years ago, took some time to find my highschool graduation photo.  Time flies.

Day Off

IMG_0260.JPGTook a day off because I signed up to attend some seminars at my Alma Mater. The seminars starts at 11am, so I figured today would be a nice day to start a new routine of getting up early. Woke up at around 6:30am, had a light breakfast while reading the news, then I went for a morning run.

Went home for shower after the run. Left home for school shortly after and I was about 10 minutes late when I got to the venue. Then the funny thing happened, I found out that the seminars were actually set for Oct. 22nd instead of Sept. 22nd!

The visit to my Alma Mater was not completely futile however. There was a sea of students (~13,000) from many universities gathering at the university’s “million boulevard” to kick off the week-long class boycott for democracy. It was my first time sitting in on similar large scale public demonstrations, quite an interesting and worthwhile experience.

Sealed my productive Creative Monday with the usual painting class at night.

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day 5/5

Faith – As much as I wish to introduce my family and friends to the love, joy, peace, and hope of Christianity, I seldom talk about it myself. Admittedly not being too good with words, I hope that others would see God’s work in me through the things that I do.

1. Thankful that I can accept Christ at a young age

2. Thankful for meeting many good b/s to encourage and support each other along the “narrow and crooked” road

3. Thankful for the freedom of religion in HK, without which I may not be able to attend church every week for nourishment of the soul

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day 4/5

Friends – Took a stroll down the memory lane and browsed through the photos I was tagged in on FB, thankful that a rather introverted guy like me can cross path with so many wonderful friends in life.

1. Thankful for friends in my old workplaces, being self-employed now makes me miss those fun times at work (“hacky sack”, foosball, beer & wings,…)

2. Thankful for friends from school, I miss the days when I’m surrounded by friends day-in and day-out

3. Thankful for all other wonderful friends I’m so fortunate to cross path with, it’s nothing short of a miracle that we get to meet in a world population of ~7 billion people!

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day 3/5

IMG_0259.JPGFamily – I always feel safe and welcomed in my family. Being the youngest, I am always in the receiving end. With my parents getting older, I feel that the roles should be switched and I should start safeguarding my family. I think there’s a reason why “家” is in my name!

1. Thankful for my parents who have unconditionally loved me since birth

2. Thankful for my siblings, being the youngest one is the best! =)

3. Thankful for shelter, not only for protection, but also for giving me a comfortable home that I always feel welcomed

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day 2/5

Work – I used to think a lot about my career path, but looking back it seems many jobs actually came knocking at the door without me seeking, they seemed to have been prepared for me in advance. Now I’m learning not to plan or worry about my career but to follow His guidance and do good works on whatever He finds me to do.

1. Thankful for the work opportunities that seemed to have been prepared for me in advance

2. Thankful for the ability to make a living by doing good (quality) work

3. Thankful for a good work environment and flexible (not necessarily free) hours to work at my own pace

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day 1/5

IMG_0257.JPGArt (and Design) – didn’t receive any formal training, nor work in art-related fields, but Art seems to play an important role in my life.

1. Thankful for the weekly oil painting class, good teacher and nice classmates

2. Thankful for the occasional opportunities to serve Him with His gifts in church and fellowship

3. Thankful for having a small studio to indulge in art when work isn’t busy

Running

Ran for the first time since January! Totally out of shape, I could barely finish the ~2.5k run (I actually aimed to run 5k). I think it will take a miracle for me to train up for a half marathon, not to say a full one.

Mid-Autumn Holiday

IMG_0254.JPG

Slept till around 11am, had half a mooncake and coffee for breakfast. Was thinking about taking a stroll in the mall, but worried about the crowd, ended up spending the afternoon in the studio to catch up some TV shows.

Played soccer at night. It has been weeks since I had done any exercise, my muscles seemed a bit tense, so I played somewhat casually and carefully so as not to hurt myself.

The politics in this city seems to have reached the threshold since China had set a strict framework for 2017 election, negating any form of democracy. This noisy city is becoming even louder. As much as I hate politics, I’m disgusted by our current government, there were lies, threats, and injustice. But what can a humble little citizen do? Trying to find a piece of heaven in this city seems like chasing after the wind…

In one of the TV shows I watched this afternoon, a mother tried to persuade her son not to continue his political path, “Why fight the battle when you know you’ll lose?” she said. I asked myself a similar question during the soccer game – “Why play hard when you know you’ll lose?”… I just know someday someone will answer “why live when you know you will die!”

Mid-Autumn Festival

IMG_0253.JPGGot a fair bit of work done today, readying myself for public holiday tomorrow. Had dinner with my family outside before heading to my brother’s place for fruits and some moon gazing. I spent a long time assembling the DIY lantern I designed. There’s much room for improvement, but for a beta design, it’s form and function is better than I imagined.

It seems like I haven’t had a worry-free day-off for a long time. Will sleep in tomorrow, casually stroll around (and maybe get a hair cut) in the afternoon, and play some soccer at night!
