Adult-onset Still’s Disease (AOSD)

Entered the hospital on Sunday because of prolonged high fever, and I have been staying here since then. This is actually the first time I’ve been hospitalized.

After numerous tests, it seems there’s a very high chance that I am suffering from a very rare disease called Adult-onset Still’s Disease (AOSD).

There’s short episodic high fever daily, but I feel fine most of the time. Started taking in a new drug today, will need to see its effects on my body before deciding the next step.

Admittedly I’m a little worried, so I pray. My mother is the most worried, and I’m saddened seeing her that way, I can only pray…

Day 65

Rainy night.  Took a stroll around the previously occupied area in MK.  It was difficult to find a trace of the protest that was still there last Monday.  To be honest, I prefer the previous state where I can walk freely on Nathan Road and see people vibrantly utilizing the public space.  Now, you just constantly see double-decker buses passing by and obstructing the view of the open space.

I really think the anti-protesters should stop saying “還路於民” when they should more accurately say “還路於車”!

Day 64

It’s been 2 weeks since I last visited the “Harcourt Village” in Admiralty.  Tonight is definitely the tensest night since the Umbrella Movement broke out on 20140928.  I witnessed firsthand protesters hustling to be cleansed by volunteering first-aiders after being pepper sprayed.

I sat far away from the frontline, paying close attention to the radio news while doing a little sketch.

Day 63

First time visiting the occupied protest area in CWB.  Of the 3 occupied area, this seems to be the quietest.

My good friend’s Big Day.  Helping out as an amateur wedding photographer, I woke up early to meet up with the groomsmen to start the full-day celebration.  I had a hard time with the groom’s camera, though it’s relatively compact and light, the digital viewfinder was annoyingly sluggish, and the camera’s interface was hardly intuitive.  I wasn’t able to capture a lot of nice photos, good thing they hired professional photographers for the once in a lifetime event.

Photography aside, the full-day celebration was a happy reunion of friends I don’t see too often.  I also got to meet some fun-loving groomsmen.  The fun lasted till around 3am when we left the newly wed’s cozy apartment.

“Bachelor Party”

It’s my good friend’s Big Day tomorrow.  Rather than throwing a crazy bachelor party for the groom, we decided to simply have a couple of drinks.  One of the friends came back from Toronto and another just arrived town earlier in the morning from Tokyo.  It was a happy reunion of friends.

Fellowship Retreat

Came back from my fellowship retreat this afternoon, read the news and napped for about an hour before going out for a run, my first run since the Umbrella Movement started on Sept. 28th.

I had been looking forward to the retreat, worked till near midnight for 3 consecutive nights before taking a day off to join the retreat on Friday. Finished off all my immediate work as I didn’t want to carry any “burden” into camp, it echoes this year’s retreat theme “Traveling Light(ly)”.

The retreat was a good break for me. It was a good time to do a little reflection, to think about life, family, love, and many things I think is important yet spent little time on. For the past month or so, I had been spending much of my time keeping up with the daily news (from both news media and FB feed). Much time seemed to have lavishly lost.

I deliberately not go on FB for the weekend, and it seems like a liberation. The anxiety of not keeping up with the newsfeed didn’t seem that strong, I may not be as addicted as I thought I was.

Traveling Light

Off for a weekend break… Traveling Light (as I always try to do).

Day 52

Took an extended lunch to visit the occupied area in Mong Kok.  I was thirsty for a drink, but realised quickly that 99% of the shops along Nathan Road in the occupied area were jewellery shops, had to get the drink from an inner street.

Made my first sketch of the Umbrella Movement, need more practice…
