My first time to catch a glimpse of some HK artists’ studios at the Fotanian event was 2 years ago, not long after I came back from Canada. Revisiting the same event after 2 years makes me realize that I still very much want to have a studio space to do some “dirty” experimental work, but now I started to consider more about the economic feasibility. Overheard an artist saying that he only had time to do art after retirement, and another artist said the only reward he can get is the spiritual support from people who appreciates his artwork. I can’t help but question how an artist can make a living, especially here in HK. I can now see why the term “starving artist” was coined!
To show my support for local artists to pursue what they dearly loved to do, I bought the event booklet, something that was free 2 years ago.
p.s. I’m pretty much recovered from my cold/flu now. It actually felt good to be sick once in a while, almost forgot what it felt like.
