bodw & BYOB

I was carrying with me a fair bit of expectation entering the bodw show, but I left during the break right after the first presentation by Hermés.  I believe there’s value in good design, but there’s something I disgust about luxurious goods, I just can’t stand the way people spending so much money buying them simply as a status symbol.  There are people out there who can’t even afford to buy food!  I see these luxurious brands and their grand display windows in the shopping malls, then I walk on the streets and see the beggars putting down their dignity just for a few coins, and now I understand the severity of the “widening gap between rich and poor”.

With so much time before the first BYOB forum, I decided to take a stroll in Hong Kong Park and Hong Kong Zoological & Botanical Garden.  Although I don’t really like seeing animals in captivity, I know that these refreshing and valuable urban green spaces are becoming more and more rare.

The BYOB forum at night was unexpectedly good, although there weren’t too many people participating and it was actually getting quite chilly under the pavilion.

Here’s what I don’t understand – the bodw show about the luxurious goods/brands was packed with people, but the BYOB forum about “Trees: Social Responsibility” was scarce with participants.  What are people’s priorities in HK?
