Fellowship Retreat

Got back from a 2-day retreat with my fellowship.  The lack of sleep got me daydreaming most of the time in the camp.  Quite tired this morning, realized how badly I missed my bed at home!  Despite the tiredness, I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to know b/s more through their sharings and prayers.

Green Wall

Had a chance to visit a large indoor green wall installation designed by Patrick Blanc tonight.  I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be, but it’s still a very pleasant experience.  I want to experiment with a small version of this green wall in my studio later, without using artificial lights of course!

Will be off to an overnight retreat with my fellowship tomorrow, better sleep early…

New Year Resolution 2011

Year after year of failing to keep my resolutions will not stop me from making a new list this year!

Here’s my list of 10 Resolutions for 2011:

  1. Finish all my school work (Dissertation, 1 Elective, IT Test) by the end of April
  2. Start a company
  3. Train and complete a 10K run
  4. Improve my freethrow percentage to 70%
  5. Start seeking my significant other
  6. Finish reading The Green Bible
  7. Do my daily devotion
  8. Rid of my bad habit
  9. Argue less with my parents and pray for them regularly (weekly)
  10. Keep all my resolutions!

Let this iron ring serve as a constant reminder of this promise I made to myself today. May God be my witness and support.

Thanksgiving

Had a bit too many gatherings last week.  Not particularly fond of going out into the crowd, but I do cherish the opportunities to catch up with friends I don’t often see during the year.

Life is finally back to normal, and I can once again sit quietly in my studio to do some planning for this new year.  I shall first be thankful for a past year filled with love, joy, and peace.  I’m thankful for a loving family that is patient with me and had given me the support and freedom to pursue my still seemingly uncertain career path;  I’m thankful for the numerous joyous friends surrounding me, sharing with me their laughter;  I’m also thankful for the extraordinary peace that God had given me despite the occasional ups and downs in life.

2010 Review

Here’s the review of my New Year’s Resolution for 2010:

  1. Finish reading The Message
  2. Complete the online drawing lessons
  3. Start a company and earn a positive net income  (still have a burning desire, but will focus on finishing school first)
  4. Communicate better and argue less with my parents  (still find it difficult, it’s impossible to reason with them…)
  5. Volunteer at least once  (attempted to seek out opportunities, but no success)
  6. Enter at least one design competition
  7. Able to drive on my own  (drove a few times with my dad on my side)
  8. Rid of my bad habit (improved, but still need work)
  9. Read at least 24 books (read ~15)
  10. Keep all my New Year’s Resolution for 2010!  (how could I kid myself like that?!)

Only managed to accomplish 3/10 of my resolutions, was I too ambitious?  Laziness and sluggishness seemed more likely to be the major cause.

To-do Lists

Started writing down my daily to-do lists on square pieces of paper early this year.  Each piece documents 1 week of to-dos.  Now close to the year-end, I almost have enough folds to complete an origami ball!

Year-end is a period for reflection.  The ability to reflect and learn from experience is part of what defines us as human.

Borrowed this book when I was researching for my paper, but didn’t have a chance to read it until recently.  There is so much potential in introducing vegetation into the urban fabric in the form of green roofs, green walls, balcony plantings, courtyards, etc.  Sometimes I ponder about pursuing a career in landscape design to make cities more breathable and healthy.

This will likely be the last book I read in 2010.

Christmas 2011

Sent out a load of eCards today, hope it won’t be regarded as spam!

I just hope to tell my family and friends that there’s a special place in my heart reserved for them.  I’m forever thankful that God had me cross paths with so many wonderful people in life.

Christmas Card 2010

Christmas Card 2010

Let us remember the true meaning of Christmas…

Christmas Card

Was up until 5am working on my Christmas card, interesting how time flies when I’m absorbed in my work.  It was my first time doing ink & wash and watercolor since returning to HK, brought back good memories of the late-night project crunching time for my cartooning/illustration night courses.

Will email the card out tomorrow, a good annual exercise to reconnect with friends far and near.  But what I desperately need first is to get some quality sleep through this Silent Night…
