Politics

Some of my friends may have heard me said before how ignorant I am when it comes to economics and politics.  If I start reading those sections during my daily news consumption, it’s a good sign that I’m getting old.

I was never interested in politics, and I think that runs in our family.  But that seems to have changed recently, the CE election became the main discussion topic during our regular Sunday afternoon dim sums.  I find it particularly funny seeing how my mother overreacted to every single piece of gossiping news of the CE candidates.  She used to be even more ignorant than me on politics.

Still not quite into politics, but I just find it nonsense to have only 1,200 people representing 7 million people to vote.  I voiced my discontent by voting in the earlier unofficial poll in which more than 22,000 citizens placed their ballots.  The results were drastically different than today’s official poll, and that’s undeniably more representative of the hope carried by the majority of HK citizens.  But nothing seemed to matter anyway, what more can I do than to pray for the city that I’m starting to take root in?

This is probably the longest piece of journal I’ve ever written about politics, I can officially tell all my friends now that I’m becoming an old fart.

Unlocking iPhone

My brother got a new phone earlier and gave me his old one.  Without knowing anything about unlocking/jailbreaking, I accidentally updated the phone’s OS and that apparently updated its baseband to one that doesn’t seem to be unlock-able at the moment.  Don’t think there’s a way to downgrade the baseband and upgrading it will likely make the GPS unusable.  Guess I’ll just wait for the hacking community to come up with a fix.  Work hard, hackers!

Wasted too many futile hours trying to setup the phone, really need to put that aside and get back to doing some serious work…

Tiredness

Another tired Sunday, I thought it was supposed to be a day for rest?  Perhaps the lack of sleep this week is making me pay, the hot weather and suffocating high humidity recently may also be to blame, I just hope this is not a sign of cold/flu.

Went to church this morning, followed by our usual family dim sum.  Visited my uncle at the hospital afterwards, he had a big operation last night and still seemed quite weak when we visited.  Please know that you’re always in my prayers.  God, please be merciful to my uncle and his family.

Joined my fellowship’s group gathering at one of the couple’s place in the outskirts of Fanling, it’s probably one of the most remote place I’ve ever visited (besides Tai O) in Hong Kong.  I suppose the long traveling time is what you have to pay for to see the stars at night in this sleepless city.

Website Redesign

It has been close to 3 years since I last re-designed this website.  Took me about a week to complete, had been sleeping considerably less each day, but glad to be able to roll this out before the start of a new week.

It took me quite a while to dug up stuff to put in the portfolio. But now that the site is much organized, I can more easily archive my future creative works.

Looking at the things I’ve done over the years, I feel blessed, thankful that God had given me so much in life.  What can I possibly do to repay you O Lord?

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”  (Micah 6:8)

Daily To-Dos

Daily To-dos (vector)Another day, another vector art, this is getting a bit addictive!  It’s probably about 2 years ago that I started this habit of writing down my daily to-do lists on square pieces of paper.

Each morning I would start my day by listing down the things to be done that day, and one by one I would cross them out as each of the tasks was completed.  One piece of paper is enough for an entire week of to-dos (excluding Sundays).  After each week I would fold the filled-up paper into an unit that can be interconnected with other pieces.  After a couple of years now, I have myself a couple of “origami balls” sitting on my desk, and the collection is still growing!

Praying Hands

A background illustration for a PPT I prepared for fellowship’s prayer meeting.

Praying Hands

Praying HandsAfter seeing some artists’ online portfolios yesterday, I had the urge to create some art of my own.  I needed to create a prayer items PPT for fellowship tomorrow, so I decided to satisfy my urge and create a nice background for the PPT.  The result is a vector illustration of a pair of praying hands, it looks pretty good serving as the PPT background!

Website Redesign (maybe)

Thinking about giving my website a complete makeover, so I spent some time today surfing the web looking for inspirations.  Over the years I’ve bookmarked tens of artists’ portfolio websites, but I didn’t quite have the chance to see them in details until today.  Enjoyed reading through the artists’ bios and seeing their imaginative works.

Rekindling my idea of doing art to make a living, but would that be feasible here in HK?  Or am I just paving my way to become another starving artist?!

Design Competition

Towngas Pit CoverSubmitted my design for the Towngas Street Art competition today.  Thought about submitting it later to see if I might be able to come up with better ideas, but I kind of want to get this over with and get back to doing some real work.  Regardless, the time spent on designing was fun, and I’ll at least have something to add to my portfolio even if I don’t win any prize.  Should keep an eye out for more design competitions later…

I still remember the first time I won a coloring contest.  I was in primary school, and my sister brought home a coloring sheet for me one day, it was for an Easter coloring contest held by a nearby Shoppers.  I colored the Easter-themed picture with all the pencil crayon coloring skills I know then and submitted the finished artwork.  Surprisingly, I won first prize and was rewarded with a big Easter basket full of treats!

I really liked drawing and coloring when I was young, I pulled my first ever all-nighter in primary school trying to complete the illustrations for a school project on fairy tales! =)
