Creative Mondays

IMG_0048Spent some time this afternoon to finish where I left off yesterday in caring for my home succulent “farm”, didn’t have time to do any creative work other than attending my weekly painting class.

Seems like I’ll be having a busy week with work and gatherings.  I’ve accepted a small website revamp job that should keep me busy for 3-4 days, I’m hoping the small project would ease my transitioning into working full-time in a formal office environment.

Mother’s Day

Spent a little time on this Mother’s Day weekend to tend my “farm” at home.  Delivered some baby succulents and planted them as a living ornamental gift for my friends’ house-warming present.

The Mother’s Day gift I made for my mother last year has grown quite a lot over the year, quite amazing.  This is the reason why I prefer giving live (rather than dead) gifts, they grow and become nicer in the passage of time.

Cleanup

Planning to start working at one of the empty desks at my brother’s office next week, I’m hoping the formal office environment would make me work more efficient and focused compared to my cozy home studio.

In preparation for this big move, I decided to give my home studio/office a slightly more thorough cleanup.  It’s now clean, organized, and feel wonderfully comfortable, I’ll definitely miss working here…

Running

Went running this afternoon, jogged for ~12k without resting, my longest running distance yet!  Speed was a little slow, but I can work on that later after I’m able to reach the targeted half-marathon distance.

On my walk home, I thought about what was said about achieving your dreams from my previous devotional plan.  If I remember correctly, it more or less consists of the following stages:

Dream – you have a vision of what you want to achieve

Decision – making the decision to reach for your dream

Delay – often time it takes much longer than you would expect to achieve your dream, just like the many years that took the Israelite to reach Canaan

Dead End – one may reach a dead end along the way, just like the Israelite reaching Red Sea while being pursued

Deliverance – if we humble ourselves and seek God’s guidance, He will ultimately deliver us and help us reach the promised land

These stages also seem to apply to running and many other things…

New Bible

IMG_0031Finished my 365-day devotional plan this morning!    Subscribing to digital devotional plans like this really motivates one to do their daily devotions, and at the rare occasion of skipping a day or two, one can easily catch up from where they left off.

Rather than subscribing to a new digital devotional plan, I decided to go old-school and bought myself a physical copy of the bible.  It’s in New Living Translation (NLT), a version I’ve never read before.  Let’s see if I can finish reading it before the end of the year!

Creative Monday

IMG_0029Still loving my Creative Mondays – a day to retreat from work and indulge in creative things.  The day seems all the more precious now that I’m somewhat working full-time for DeeSIGNERS’, I must keep this day even if I have to work on Saturdays!

Did a little cartooning and oil painting, giving my cluttered mind a little bit of joy…

Giant Rubber Ducky

Let’s hope the giant friendly Rubber Ducky can loosen up the hostility towards birds in midst of H7N9…

Running

Went running on a Sunday evening again.  It seems like I’m regaining my stamina, I was able to complete 10k without resting, and it felt like I can keep on running for 1 or 2 more laps.

My thoughts seem to be troubled about many things lately – career, relationships, family, social injustice…  Those aren’t really big issues, but perhaps I’m just not good in coping with uncertainties and things I cannot change, I need serenity and faith that God has His good will behind everything that happens under the sun.

It’s been about 3.5 years since I returned to my birth city, but I still feel that I don’t fit in sometimes – the crowdedness, the noisiness, the indulgence in pleasure, possessions, profit, and popularity… I feel like going for a retreat and get away from it all, but my Hawaiian vacation won’t happen until late August!

Just when I’m feeling weak and discouraged, I was given this scripture in today’s devotion:

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.”  (Hebrews 10:36)
