Went for my biennial body check in the morning, then continued my chalkboard project at the studio in the afternoon. Went for my weekly painting class at night, 3rd week into my first landscape painting, finished with the background. I think it looks satisfactory so far considering it’s my first attempt, looking forward to finish off the painting next week.
Creative Monday
A Different Sunday
Parents went to Mainland for my cousin’s wedding banquet, so we didn’t have our usual family dim sum after church this week. Went to the studio to continue my chalkboard project after lunch. Was thinking about going for an evening run afterwards, but the sudden rain gave my lazy butt an excuse to rest. The rain didn’t just slow down my feet, it stopped them all together (for a brief moment at least) to admire the giant indoor Christmas tree in a mall near my home. The tree decorations look simple yet beautiful this year.
Got sidetracked last week to revamp the website for my brother’s company. With the small project out of the way, I hope to go back to planning/dreaming the venture I’ve been talking to my friend(s) about setting up.
Creative Monday
Did a little work at the studio in the afternoon. I’m trying to transform one side of the wall into a chalkboard, now in the process of flattening it before adding a layer of paint and then another layer of transparent chalkboard paint. It’s a bit of an experimentation, hope it will look and function as well as I hoped.
It was my second class into painting my first “landscape” painting tonight. Starting to get the hang of it, I had a lot of trouble earlier because I was trying to draw all the nitty-gritty details.
Bumped into a fellowship friend while exiting the MTR train, it just so happens that she was in my dream last night, what are the odds of that?! I was rushing to my painting class and she was on the phone, so I only smiled and waved goodbye.
Running
Didn’t have time to run last week, made up for it this week. Ran ~11k, trying again to slowly build up my stamina for a half-marathon.

Exhibition Setup
Walked into the office after being away for a couple of weeks, was thinking it would just be another day in front of the computer, but it turned out to be a little more interesting…
It so happens that my brother’s demising company is joining an annual exhibit for yet another year. Instead of staying at the office alone, I decided to join my cousin and help setup their booth at the HKCEC. Though the exhibit on cosmetics is of no interest to me, I found setting up the booth to be rather interesting – I was trying to make sense of the many metallic products and making my best attempt to arrange them in such a way that would best catch the eyes of the exhibit-goers, not an easy task I must say.
My relationship with relatives is not all that close, and the closest one is probably my uncle’s (i.e. father’s younger brother) family, I always remember them in my weekly prayers for my family. I was delighted to chat and catch up with my cousin today. Had a little joy on a gloomy rainy day, back to work in front of the computer tomorrow.
Creative Monday
Started a new painting during class tonight, it’s not just another painting, it’s a new type of painting – this is the first landscape painting I’m attempting, a little departure from the usual painting of “objects”.
I caught a slight cold last week, wasn’t serious, but energy level had been rather low because of it. And the past weekend had been filled with gatherings/celebrations with friends. So didn’t do much work at all for the entire week.
My cold is almost fully recovered now, and I had rested more than enough, hope to start things new again this week… just like starting a new painting.
Creative Monday
Went to the studio to do a little planting this afternoon before heading to my oil painting class, was about 15 minutes late.
Finished another painting, not too satisfied with this piece. Didn’t seem to have the mood to paint tonight for some reason, maybe it’s the subject of the painting, or maybe it’s just the rainy weather. My classmate said I look tired (which is not entirely wrong) and the instructor said my piece was a little Picasso-like.
I’m a little tired probably because I slept on the sofa last night. With my parents off on their cruise trip, I’ve been doing many things I wouldn’t normally do at home – sleep on the sofa, eating cup noodles and drinking beer,…
It’s good to have a little break sometimes, but I’m actually a little worried about my parents. I think they should be alright as they have each other, and there also happens to be 20+ of their friends on the same cruise.
Running
It was already close to sunset when I started my run. Started late because I decided at the last minute to join my friends for lunch after church, enjoyed an afternoon of laughter and reminiscence of the Canadian days with some good old friends.
Parents are currently on their cruise trip, so I didn’t need to rush home for dinner, took my time to run. Ran one more lap with the same amount of time, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen improvements in my running routine.

HK Saxophone Ensemble
Was entrusted with the responsibility to take my little nephew to attend an orchestral performance because my brother and sister-in-law had prior engagements. It just so happens that my fellowship was cancelled tonight, and it’s been awhile since I took my nephew out on a little date, so I happily took him out for a little music – a universal language I barely understand. I find it very enjoyable nonetheless, musicians and their inseparable bond with their instruments never stops to impress me.
I can see that my little nephew enjoyed the performance too, his little fingers were involuntarily moving trying to follow the music played by the saxophonists on stage. He seemed to focus and enjoy the music much more compared to the last time I took him to another orchestral performance a few years back.
My cheerful little nephew made my non-fellowship Friday night a delightful one.
