Studio

My three “co-workers” moved from their huge office into the comparatively tiny studio this week, it is now as lively as ever!  I’ve been trying my best to help them settle in by setting up some of the shared utilities – wi-fi, deck, pantry,…  The studio is not as big and classy as their old office, but I personally like this cozy and less formal setting much more, feels a bit like the vibrant startup environment of my first co-op job!

Will spend a little time to setup my own workspace and do some real work next week!

Busy Week

Last week was a rather busy week, spent most of my time setting up the studio – moving the heavy shelves, painting walls, mopping floor, assembling and arranging furniture, and cleaning up.  The place should be ready for my “co-locaters” and their stuff to move in tomorrow.

Also managed to squeeze some time last week to do a few more things – started helping my brother setup his home office, helped a friend design his wedding invitation, and worked on a freelance website project.  Hope to complete some of these tasks this week, then I’ll be less hectic and be able to do some of the things that are long due – catchup on my newsfeed, big cleanup at home before CNY,… And yes, I badly need a haircut!

Running

The weather was a bit too cold to run for the last couple of weeks, it warmed up a bit recently and I resumed my training.  Ran the same distance (~12k) and unexpectedly with the same amount of time.  I’m hoping to train up and run my first half-marathon in 2014.

Had been a little busy after the 2 days of New Year holiday, I still have yet to spend time to properly plan for my 2014.  I’m hoping to finish setting up my studio, complete a freelance website project, help a friend design his wedding invitation card, properly set up my brother’s home office, and then do a big clean up at home this month.  If all goes well, I’ll be able to take a little break and do a little planning for 2014 during the CNY holidays!

Ready for Renovation!

All the bulky junk in the studio have finally been cleared away today!  My father asked his friend who runs a self-employed moving business to help out.  My father was with me in the studio all day overlooking the moving process.  The studio looks so much bigger with all the junk removed!

The next step is to have my brother’s friend come in to install new air-conditioners, wire electricals, open up the wall to the storage room, and drill a few holes on the ceiling to hang stuff.  The work should be starting in a few days.

My family have been very supportive in helping me set up the studio, I’m very thankful for that!

p.s.  After much panic, we finally found a print shop that would be able to print our church’s CNY red packets on time and within budget, I’m very thankful for that too!

Weekly Update

Didn’t seem to have much opportunity to sit down in front of the computer and jot down my daily happenings this week.  Have had many holiday gatherings, including meeting up a couple of friends from out of town, and joining my church’s annual Christmas lunch for the first time.

Had been spending most of my time between gatherings in setting up my studio.  Making good progress (I think), cleared out a little stuff, and the bulk of the existing junk should be taken away by a truck tomorrow.  My father and his friends have been helping a lot along the way, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this by myself.

Bumped into one of my studio’s neighbor on the lift last week, briefly introduced myself and knowing that they are a printing company I asked if he may help with printing our church’s CNY red packets this year.  The print shop that helped us last year is not available this year and I have no idea where else to find a trustworthy and quality printer.  We are also running out of time as most print shops are stopping orders before the upcoming CNY holiday.  My newly met neighbor/friend will get back to me on Monday/Tuesday, hopefully it would be good news.

Merry Christmas 2013!!

I was thinking about doing my first painting in the studio yesterday/today, but didn’t have enough time.  Have to use a painting done in class a few weeks ago for my personal greeting card.  Wishing everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Nostalgia

Had my first holiday meet up with friends from out of town this afternoon.  The last time the 4 of us met up was also on a Saturday afternoon ~4 months ago at the same restaurant.  We shared our recent happenings and enjoyed some laughter.  Good times.

Went back to the studio afterwards to clear out some stuff before the upcoming renovation.  It felt a bit like digging though an archeological site.  I found an ancient business plate which brought back fond memories of messing around in my parents’ factory as a kid.  I started thinking about using that business name again – breathing new life into a forgotten name that once had a glorious past…

CNY Designs Completed!

Worked till 5am in the morning, managed to finish some CNY designs for my church in less than a day!  Hope the designs are ok and not too much changes will be needed.

Woke up late this morning (~10am), I probably would’ve slept in even more if I didn’t need to go back to the studio and help out in clearing some of the junk.  As anticipated, an urgent BIG renovation is needed to make room for a few coworkers to move in before mid-Jan.  This is actually good, I could use a little push to get things going, but I was a bit too tired to feel the excitement.
