7.1 Rally

Went with my sister and brother-in-law to join the annual 7.1 Rally.  I joined the rally for my first time 2 years ago, didn’t go last year, and this year it felt like I couldn’t afford to miss it.  The rally this year is definitely more crowded and tiring.

Wouldn’t it be nice to chill out with a cold glass of beer and celebrating Canada Day at the other side of the globe instead of getting all sweaty and smelly in the rally?  Some solitude in the studio would be another good option to spend the holiday.  Why rally for justice, freedom, and democracy?  I don’t know crap about politics, I’m just doing what I think is the right thing to do.

Creative Monday

IMG_0737Did a little cartooning in the afternoon followed by my evening oil painting class, it was another simple, quiet, and creative Monday.

KWCACers Reunion

A friend decided to move back to Toronto with his wife and son, it hastened our old Waterloo fellowship b/s to finally meet up.  The last time we met was more than a year ago.  It was good catching up with everyone and knowing that everyone is doing ok.

One of the most asked question during the reunion was whether each of us thought about moving back to Canada, seems like the idea crosses most of our minds, but none of us have made the move for various reasons.  Witnessing the many injustice with our current Government and foreseeing the economic-centric unsustainable development of the city, moving back to Canada is becoming more of an alluring idea.  But this is where my family is, I don’t want to give up hope for my birth city.

Soccer

Played a little soccer tonight. The weather was hot, humid, and windless, so it seemed more tiring than usual to run on the field. But it was good to break some sweat, the game also seemed more enjoyable because of the eminent World Cup fever.

World Cup

Woke up to watch the 4am Brazil vs Cameroon game.  I suddenly recall the time when I watched the World Cup with 3 good friends in the summer of 98′ before we went our separate ways to start university.  The 4 of us lived in the same apartment building and went to the same nearby highschool.  We did many things together and got to know each other pretty well during the 2 years of highschool.  Out of the blue, I decided to message them during half-time.  We started exchanging messages again after months of not contacting each other, brought back some fond memories.

My sleep time is a little screwed up since World Cup started, good thing my IT work has flexible hours.

An Unofficial Vote

I used to tell my friends that I know I’m old when I ever start reading the political news, having said that, taking a stance and casting an unofficial vote tonight can be regarded as another way of admitting I’m old.

The vote is unofficial because the public poll is not organized by the government and so not legal-binding, some officials even claim that the poll is down right illegal! There were also many conspiracy surrounding the heated event, some of my friends decided not to vote because they don’t want to be tricked into a political game, and some other thinks that the event is nothing more than meaningless political shenanigans.

As for a political dumb ass like me, I simply want to cease the opportunity to voice out my opinion of wishing HK to stay free and democratic. Isn’t this what we were promised by the Basic Law 17 Years ago? There are still 33 years till it runs out!

Information Technology

IMG_0211I have the habit of reading my daily news online in the morning before leaving home for work, so it seemed rather unsettling for not being able to do so this morning due to what claimed to be a cyber attack on the news server.

Went to work after an early lunch, after sending out the fellowship programme card design for printing, I shifted my focus back to my regular IT work.  The morning incident got me thinking about my work, I now seem to look at it with a greater sense of mission and responsibility.

Woke up (amazingly without the alarm) to watch the 3am Spain vs Chile game via online streaming, Spain is losing 2:0 while I’m typing up this post.  Flexibility is another thing I like about IT work, I can easily shift time and work anytime and anywhere as long as I have my computer and an internet connection.

Creative Monday

IMG_0716Thankful for a no-work Creative Monday.  Watched the 3am France vs Honduras game, slept in, it was near lunch time by the time I got back to the studio.  Did some 3D printing experimentation in the afternoon before going to my evening painting class.  It felt good to be painting again after 2 weeks absence.

Reluctant to let any minute of my Creative Monday slip away easily, I went back to the studio to do a little cartooning for my fellowship programme card design.  Hope to finish the card design tomorrow before shifting my focus back to IT work for the rest of the week.
