Half Day @CUHK

Went back to my Alma Mater before noon to sit in on a public lecture by Xi Zinong on “Protecting the Nature through Images”.  The humble and admirable wildlife photographer have spent ~30 years treading through the most remote locations in China taking breathtaking pictures of nature.  I understood probably around 60% of the mandarin, but through his meticulously arranged images, I was touched by his love of nature and China, I can almost feel his sense of helplessness seeing the harsh treatment of wildlife and landscape in the name of economic development by the Chinese Government.

After the lecture, I had lunch and then took a leisurely stroll around the campus.  I also went to the main library to pay for my alumni library card, something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.  I took a look around the interior of the newly renovated library while I was there, really love how the new extension is submerged with natural light that’s filtered by the water fountain above.

Fellowship

fellowshipThankful to be able to join fellowship again after more than a month of absence. Saw many welcoming smiles from b/s, and many of them said I looked a little thinner now…

We had this exercise to find someone we didn’t know too well and stare at him/her silently for one full minute, I took the opportunity to dictate an adorable little lady. =)

Mighty Pen

After the tragic event at Charlie Hadbo, I realized that it actually takes courage to do satire cartoons.  Never really thought cartooning would hold such great power and influence.

I salute all the brave cartoonists out there!

Doctor Visit

Checked in with the doctor yet again today, all signs from the blood test were normal.  Will continue to lower my medication dosage weekly and then check in with the doctor again on 24th (this will be the last time if my blood test looks good then).

Doctor said I can now carry on my normal activities, that means joining friends’ gatherings, fellowship, badminton, soccer,… =)

Painting Class

IMG_0908Due to illness and holidays, it had been more than a month since I last joined my weekly oil painting class, felt good to be painting behind the easel again.

A few of the classmates asked about my illness and wished me good health, they even saved me the chocolates and cookies they gave out during the holidays!  I’ve been joining this painting class for ~2.5 years, and a few of them also became regular students, and we naturally became friends.  It’s good to have friends painting together on a regular basis, I think this will be a habit I’ll keep for 2015!

Studio Cleanup

Spent much of my weekend at the studio.  I first dusted off the little illustration/cartooning area and used it to ink and color the illustration for the upcoming fellowship programme card design.  I hope to utilize the area more in 2015 and do more illustrations/cartoons on my spare time.

I also spent a lot of time planting, actually the preparation took more time as it took me a few visits to the Flower Market and Ikea to get all the plants and pots I needed.  Now the little green corner looks great, and the air seems to be fresher too!

Since being sick for much of the first half of December, I have been giving myself a really long vacation to rest, recover, and to spend more time with my family.  It’s been a long break away from work, and I think I’ve rested well enough, will slowly ease myself back to work tomorrow.

New Year’s Day

It’s public holiday today, so it seemed especially quiet when I went to the studio in the afternoon.  I didn’t do much on the 1st day of 2015 other than slightly improving and printing my to-do/memo/calendar design for January.

I also did a little cleaning and organizing of my work desk, preparing myself to start work again.  I’m officially starting work again on the 5th, hope to do more GOOD WORKS in 2015.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

New Year’s Eve

Couldn’t join my fellowship’s hotpot at night because I’m still on medication and my doctor advised me not to join gatherings with many people.  It has been like a month since I last joined fellowship, sure hope I’ll be able to recover fully and join again soon.

Tonight’s another one of those times when I wished to spend with someone special, thought about someone and was kinda hoping to get a New Year’s greeting from her, but nothing came from her when I checked through the many messages the next morning.  I initiated a conversation with her by sending her a greeting message on Christmas day, so I was kinda hoping she’ll initiate a conversation on New Year’s day, that way I’ll know she’s a little interested in me?  I’ll continue to pray and be patient with God in finding my other half…

I was tired before the countdown, could hardly keep my eyes open to watch the fireworks.  Instead of joy and hope, tears sipped out of my eyes, I couldn’t understand why that much money spent on fireworks that lasts for mere minutes couldn’t be put to better use on the weak and poor?  Moreover, there were still constant protests on the streets, it just didn’t seem like the right time for celebration.

New Year’s Gift

Like a kid, I asked my parents to buy me a New Year’s gift this year.  My mom gave me money earlier, but I insisted that they should go with me to buy the gift together, it’s just more meaningful that way.

I wanted a new watch for the gift because the old one that my brother bought me ~7 years ago ran out of battery and part of the glass was chipped off.  I did a little research on the web this afternoon and found a watch I liked, but found out that it costs ~HKD$17,000!  I ended up buying another one that I also liked for a fraction of the cost at ~$3,000.

I hope this new watch would last for at least 7 more years!
