CNY Day

Woke up in the middle of the night at around 3am and couldn’t fall back to sleep even though I was still tired. Did my daily devotions, followed by breakfast while catching up on the daily news.

It was 6-ish am when I finished my morning routine, I pushed myself out the door for my marathon training while the sky was still dark. With the marathon happening in a little bit over 2 weeks, I intensified my training schedule and targeted to run 18k. Tiredness kicked in about halfway. Luckily, I thought of a creative way to distract my tiredness. For the remaining run, every lap (~600m) or so I would think of a special person in my life and search my memory of the special moments I had with him/her. The first came my immediate family (father, mother, sisters, brother), followed by my late uncle, my calligraphy class members, the girl-I-like, and finally God who had purposefully gathered us together in life. I was filled with gratefulness after the tiring run. The dopamine certainly helped too.

Our family’s CNY Day tradition continued this year and we had dim sum lunch at the same restaurant for the past 10 years!

In the late afternoon, our HK gov. held a press conference raising the Wuhan coronavirus to the top emergency tier, and as a result, the marathon scheduled for early Feb. will be cancelled. Even though I’m totally not prepared for it and had been secretly hoping it to be deterred, there was still a sense of disappointment hearing the announcement.
