Catching Up

The many months of social distancing has me nurturing a new habit of staying home on Sundays to rest and catch up on RTHK videos, FB news, daily devotions, etc.

As the pandemic continue to ease with daily infections staying low in the single digit, I’m also beginning to play catch-up socially. Seized the Mid-Autumn holiday to message friends I haven’t contacted for a long time, friends including those in North America and friends I’ve been thinking a lot but a bit anxious to message like the girl-I-like. Church will also be opening up this week and I’ll have a chance to catch up with my b&s soon. Hopefully, I’ll have enough time to catch up with my close friends before a possible 4th wave hit us.

Decided to do something different this year for Inktober after the plagiarism fiasco. Will follow a different list to draw and ink birds daily. Debated about forgetting Inktober all together, but I can really use some motivation to help me ramp up my creativity and productivity. With the decision made, I’m already lagging behind in the daily inklings and will need to play catch-up this week.

The month of October is looking like a month of playing catch-ups, socially, spiritually, creatively,… May God bless the catch-ups. ??

Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival this year coincided with China’s National Day. With political conflicts piling up and unresolved and a pandemic easing but never seems to cease, the atmosphere this year seemed worst for the 10 years since I returned to HK.

There was no celebration to speak of other than eating a moon cake for lunch. I took the holiday to make up for my sleep deprivation – woke up relatively late and had a couple of afternoon naps. Still feeling a little tired when writing this post at around 10pm. Will probably sleep early tonight too.

Seems like I’m coming down with a slight cold/flu with the change of season, but it seems to have gotten much better by taking in vitamin-c supplements and resting more in the last couple of days.

Plan to start some collaborative projects starting next week, it’s really time to get serious and pick up the slack for a not so productive year. May God guide my work back on track and allow me to “use the gifts He has given me to serve others, as faithful stewards of His grace in its various forms.” ??

Readying for Q4

Continued with the studio cleanup this past week. Experimented with a new way to use up the accumulated popsicle sticks scraps to make boxes and a few more pallet models. After weeks of sporadic cleanup sessions, the studio should now be more or less ready for new projects in the last quarter of a not so fruitful 2020.

In the political scene, not much is happening other than the local police force announcing new rules in limiting press coverage during protests. With the new rules, the local police force can further allow their brutality go unchecked, and we regular citizens will further be left in the dark in the city’s darkening era.

In the pandemic scene, the city reported 0 local covid19 case yesterday, that was properly the happiest news I heard in the entire week! Hopefully the numbers will continue to stay low and we can have enough time to meet and catch up with our family and friends before a possible 4th wave hit us.

Oh Lord, thank you for keeping me and my family healthy and well in Q3, please continue to help and guide us for the rest of 2020. Also, please continue to protect the 12 HK youths detained in China, bring them back safely for a open and fair trial. ??

Back to (Passive) Social…

The past week had been an unusually social one since the third wave of the pandemic hit us in early July – had dinner with a few fellowship brothers on Tue, a friend’s brief studio visit and mom’s and sister’s bday dinner on Thu, and met a friend’s friend on Sat to introduce her to my teacher’s Sat. calligraphy class. The social meetups were all initiated by others, I’m still not actively socializing yet.

I’m still somewhat in social-distancing mode, still hiding myself to finish up with the studio’s cleanup. Spent much of the time to care for the many plants (mostly succulents) in the studio. This is probably the first time I pruned the studio’s greenery in 2020, they seem to be doing pretty well under my low maintenance (weekly watering) and survival-of-the-fittest strategy. It’s kinda therapeutic to get my hands dirty with gardening once in a while.

Was notified on Friday that our proposal for the upcoming deTour exhibition didn’t get accepted. Kinda feel discouraged as I had high hopes for the proposed project. But at least we’ve tried, shouldn’t hold any “what-if” regrets.

Not much is happening in the political scene other than a Supreme Court judge resigning due to the imposed National Security Law, just another sign of an already deteriorating judiciary system. But I still pray that the 12 HK youths detained in China can be safely brought back for an open trial in the deteriorating system, it is still better than the closed and corrupted counterpart in China.

Oh Lord, please protect and save the 12 HK youths detained in China, bring them back safely for an open and fair trial. ??

Back to Social?

As soon as the government relaxed the social distancing measures to allow as many as 4 ppl to meet, the city seems to have livened up almost immediately. I had dim sum lunch with my parents for the first time since the 3rd pandemic broke out in July. Also took the opportunity to farewell a friend who will be moving to Taiwan next week. A few fellowship brothers also scheduled a dinner next week.

As much as I enjoy meeting and catching up with friends, I feel a bit anxious taking the MTR and being caught in the crowd even though almost everyone is masked. I guess I’ll need some time to transition back to socializing. Let’s hope there’s adequate time for me to adjust and catch up with friends before a possible 4th wave hit us again.

Not much has happened in the city this past week in terms of politics, that’s probably good news seeing how our city has rapidly deteriorated since the National Security law was passed in July. Need to continue pray for the 12 youths who are still detained in Mainland China.

In addition to the pandemic, there are too many things happening in our city as well as our world (wildfire in US, social unrest in Belarus,…), I find myself praying more but shorter prayers. Whenever I come across any bad news, I would just close my eyes and do a short prayer, otherwise I would likely forget about it when the next wave of bad news hit.

Oh Lord, did You hear my sporadic short prayers? Can You be merciful to us and help us stay safe and healthy during these challenging times? Let us continue to trust in You and not lose faith or hope. ??
