Work From Home (cont’d)

Continued my second week of working from home. Never stepped outside the apartment from Monday to Friday (likely my personal record). The only person I saw was my sister next door delivering me a couple cans of egg rolls.

After updating this personal website the week before, I kept on doing more web work and managed to finally update my studio’s legacy website (www.723studio.com). Wrote up some posts of the R&D projects I worked on since returning to work from my half-sabbatical in July 2021. Had a few opportunities to collaborate with a few different parties, work was full of blessings from retrospective.

I’m actually quite adapted to working from home. Will likely WFH for at least a couple more weeks given this still worsening wave of pandemic. Should be able to bring a couple more websites back to life!

Work From Home

Started working from home last week as the 5th pandemic wave was rather severe with daily COVID cases in the low 4 digits. Got back into doing some website work. Finished backing up and updating the design of this personal website and was more than halfway done for one of my studio websites. Working in my pajamas turned out to be surprisingly productive!

Went out to the neighbourhood supermarkets on Tue and Thur evening to take a breather and to stock up on some non-perishable food items before a citywide gov tracking app takes regulatory effect on 24th. Went back to the studio on Sat to do some cleanup and to bring home more items in preparation for an extended WFH period. After a week of working from home, it felt like an exploration to travel back to my studio, which was only a short bus-ride away.

I’m thankful that I can actually work from home for there are many people who can’t afford to do so. There are also the frontline medical professionals, workers, city cleaners, etc. who are risking their lives each day to help us through this crazy pandemic while we stay in the comfort of our own home. May God protect them, keep them safe and healthy while serving the people in need. 🙏🏻

Website Update

Started working from home this week due to the worsening 5th pandemic wave. I’m not too worried about infection because I just had my booster jab a few weeks ago, shouldn’t be life-threatening even if I unfortunately become infected. Nonetheless, it’s probably still better to stay home to lower my chance of needing to line up for hours to be tested under the stupid government’s “zero infection” policy.

Decided to get back to doing some long overdue website work while working from home. First project was updating this personal website which I had kept alive since 1999. Took a little time to revive the localhost on my 2012 MBP, my trustworthy IT partner is still more than proficient in handling simple website work. Tweaked the layout a little bit and fixed some long outstanding bugs, now this little personal website of mine is ready to live on for hopefully many more years to come!

CNY 2022

Mailed out the last batch of the hundred Blessed Sleeping Tiger (躺平福虎) postcard fai-chuns yesterday, now just have a few to deliver in person later.

Still have about 10 of the postcard fai-chuns to spare. I was hoping to give them out as gifts when I meet up with friends during the CNY holidays, but all meetups were cancelled due to the worsening 5th pandemic wave.

This year’s CNY holiday was a rather lonely one, didn’t meet up with anyone other than going home to have the start of year dinner with my parents on Tue. Spent a lot of time this CNY to work on the hundred Blessed Sleeping Tiger mini art project. Gave out a few to the friendly eateries near the studio to wish them good health in this coming year, a few of them posted it up proudly for the public to see. Feel really happy that friends cherished my little piece of art. All the hard work that went into this mini art project was well worth it. The process itself in crafting the hundred postcard fai-chuns also provided some much needed solitude in riding off this still worsening 5th pandemic wave. Truly grateful that this spontaneous mini art project happened, it blessed myself as much (if not more) as those who received the art!

100 Blessings (cont’d)

Started sending out the Blessed Sleeping Tiger postcard fai-chuns early this past week. As my friends started receiving the snail mails, thank you messages started pinging my mobile phone one by one. Many of the messages came with a photo of the cards received. They were proofs that my friends liked and cherished my little art. Really glad that I decided to pursue this mini art project, especially at a time when social-distancing was the appropriate thing to do.

Managed to finish drawing the 100th Blessed Sleeping Tiger yesterday, should be able to wrap up the mini art project tomorrow when I get back to the studio. Will also need to finish up a few more things tomorrow before wrapping up the Year of the Ox. Add oil!!

100 Blessings

Started the mini art project of drawing 100 Blessed Sleeping Tigers (躺平福虎) on handmade paper. Finished drawing half of them, will start mailing out the postcard fai-chuns tomorrow.

Contacted many old friends to get their mailing addresses and the 4-letter fai-chun greetings they liked me to write. This mini art project turned out to be a great conversation starter and helped me connect with friends near and far amid a pandemic that kept me away from many social activities.

The 5th pandemic wave is worsening in the city. Over 100 COVID cases were recorded today and a couple of housing estates are now under a 5-day lockdown. Following the Mainland’s zero-COVID policy, hundreds of thousands of people need to undergo COVID tests daily, is this effective and sustainable? I doubt it. Experts expect at least 2-3 months for this 5th wave to be contained, it will probably take longer from the looks of it. With the pandemic worsening, I’ll likely have more solitary time in coming days to focus on more R&D work and for prototyping some paper products to be released when the time is ripe. Add oil!!
