Extra Day-off

Clea HelenaGave myself an extra “day-off” before locking myself up for the rest of the week to work on my dissertation.  Went shopping and bought some assassin snails to hopefully control the nuisance snail infestation in my studio’s aquarium.

Played 3.5 hours of badminton tonight, a personal record.  I’ll probably be too tired to leave home for at least a day or two, no excuse to slack off!

End of CNY

The spirit of Chinese New Year has slowly faded away.  The festive pink, red, and gold ornaments dressing the city are quickly disappearing, gesturing goodbye to the most vibrant holiday of the year;  I peeled off the greetings outside my studio door and counted my red pockets, wondering what the Year of the Rabbit will mean to me.

Dissertation

Borrowed a few more books today.  Spent so much time this week searching for relevant journal articles, slowly becoming more clear about my research topic and will start narrowing my search next week.  The research phase is taking much longer than I anticipated…

I’m thankful that I was able to free myself from distractions and concentrate on my research much of this week, will need to stay focused for a month or so longer…

Rough Guide to SustainabilityThe cold and gloomy weather in the last couple of days was particularly suited to do some reading in my cozy studio.  Felt like I’m finally able to switch to full research mode for my dissertation.  I desperately need the concentration if I were to complete it by the end of March as planned.

Had a friendly game of soccer at night with my high school friends.  Big lost!  And I had myself a big “ball pie” to top it off!  Nonetheless, it was good to see and social with friends I don’t see too often.

Cold Gloomy Sunday

Church SketchIt’s a cold and rainy Sunday.  Arrived church early as it was my sister and brother-in-law’s turn to serve.  Went to our usual family dim sum following Sunday Service.  And after that, we went to visit my uncle.  It was my first time seeing him since his surgery, he seemed well and healthy, thank God!

The soccer game this evening was canceled because of the weather, and I’m enjoying the unplanned quiet afternoon in my studio.  No errands to rush through and no immediate worries cluttering my mind, peace.

Back to Work

To-do ListStarted creating my daily to-do list again.  It felt uneasy without a list of tasks to follow each day.  I don’t quite like long unplanned holidays, especially when I know that I’ve unfinished work waiting for me.

Holiday’s over, desperately need to catch up on my Dissertation…

Cardboard Bricks

Had a lot of gatherings with family and friends in this CNY holiday, so I didn’t have as much time to work on my DIY projects as I hoped.  Nevertheless, I managed to craft some brick-sized (also half-sized) cardboard boxes, this is what I’ll do with all future cardboard collected from excess packaging!

Chinese New Year 2011

It’s CNY Card 2011the Year of the Rabbit, my second Chinese New Year since returning to HK.  The atmosphere is joyous and vibrant, but I didn’t feel as dramatic of a change as last year, another indicator that I’m well adapted to the lifestyle here.

Spent the day with my family of ten – dim sum in the afternoon, then a stroll at the Peak, and followed by dinner.  I’m thankful for a peaceful day in the midst of great catastrophe happening around the world (Egypt’s political uprising, Australia’s hurricane, North America’s snowstorm…)  May God be merciful to life on Earth.

Receipts

I have the habit of saving the receipts of my purchases.  Within a year or so, the collection is more than enough to create a huge stuffed origami ball!  The ball will serve as a self-reminder to move away from the materialistic lifestyle, and to only buy things that I need and not things that I want.  Hopefully, I’ll have much less receipts in 2011!

Giving myself a little break in this CNY holiday to do some DIY projects in my studio…
