Design Week

Didn’t write a line of code for the whole week!  Instead, I’ve been keeping myself busy with a couple of design projects – print material design for my friends’ upcoming wedding in Dec. and Powerpoint template design for my church.  Have the designs sent off for feedbacks, hopefully no major changes will be requested.

This week seemed to have given me a taste of what’s it like to be working in the design field full time – interesting, and quite rewarding, but low pay (actually no pay in this case as they are considered gifts for my friends and for God).

While focusing on clearing up some design projects this week, I’ve been worrying that my clients would contact me asking about the statuses of their job orders.  Thankful that I was not interrupted.  And I anticipate that I would have to work extra hard next week to catch up with my real paid IT projects!

Liturgical Year Symbols

A set of illustrations symbolizing the different period of the liturgical year.  The illustrations are to be used for Powerpoint templates for church’s Sunday Service.

Cartooning

Haven’t done any programming or other IT work so far this week, instead I gave myself a little break to do some cartooning and help my friends design some materials for their upcoming wedding.  And just when I thought I’ve cleared up one design project, I’ve accepted another small design job today.

Plan to stretch this design marathon for another day tomorrow so that I can clear up one more design project for church.

Creative Mondays

Kick started another 3 months of Monday night painting class tonight, saw many familiar faces, and I’m still very much enjoying the weekly couple of hours of indulgence with oil painting.

Suddenly came up with the idea of dedicating my Mondays doing creative works, a day without dull programming and with no particular errands to follow, nothing but spontaneous experimental creative indulgence.  Maybe I’ll give this idea a try for the next 3 months and see if anything good will come out of it.

HK Wine & Dine Festival

20121104-022610.jpgJoined my friends for the HK Wine & Dine Festival for the first time this year. I didn’t quite expect the event to be so big and so crowded with people.

I’m not really into wine, but I find it a little amusing seeing so many people enjoying themselves in an event, I wonder how many of those smiling faces were genuine and not under the influence of alcohol. I also saw a few drunkards who puked and couldn’t even stand up. I ponder about what God would think when He looks down from heaven and see such a large crowd of people gathered not for His name but for wine. Would He be happy?

This is probably one of those things that I would try once but never do it again.

Work

Had been spending much of this week working on a website revamp project that’s due at the end of the year, got about 80% done, sent it off for review, probably won’t need to work much on it for a couple of weeks.  Felt particularly lighthearted during fellowship tonight.

Work is piling up for me, but I wish to spend some time next week to clear up a few long-outstanding design projects, this should be a little delightful break from all the html/css/javascript coding.

JF Camp 2012

Joined my fellowship camp this year and spent my weekend in a secluded camp site on Lantau Island.  I was hesitant before deciding to join the camp because I could never sleep well in beds other than my own.  Surprisingly, I slept pretty well (although only for 5-6 hours) on Sat., and wasn’t too tired for Sun. service.  I even have enough energy to do some running after getting home!  Thankful for your prayers.

It must have been a long time since I was able to leave behind work and be absolutely disconnected for a couple of days, without the many worldly distractions, God seemed closer and relationships with b/s didn’t seem as distant.

Did a little reflection during the camp, I realized that my daily devotions are habitual and without substance.  I now yearn for a deeper relationship with God, to understand more clearly His purpose in me.  May this yearning not be diluted by the inevitable distractions in life.

Two Cents (二毛)

Had been doing some ad-hoc design projects for my fellowship, I arbitrarily designed a character and had been reusing him on the various projects.

I decided to name him Two Cents (二毛), may develop him further into being my personal voice, making him “My Two Cents”. =)
