Saturdays

IMG_1198Saturdays has become more and more routine these days.  It usually starts off with me sleeping in with the alarm clock turned off, followed by the regular morning routine which includes a light breakfast while reading the daily news on my iPad.  It’s usually early afternoon by the time I get back to the studio.  Recently, I’ve been spending my Sat. afternoons cutting cardboards and turning them into boxes, it’s becoming a peculiar obsession of mine.  The DIY time isn’t all that boring as I usually keep my computer on to catch up on some TV shows/podcasts.

My Saturdays now ends with an evening of badminton since I started taking the weekly lessons for Spring.

No Fellowship Friday

IMG_1152Stupidly went to church when there was no fellowship programme scheduled, how could I’ve been so careless as to not double check the schedule before leaving work?!

Went back to the studio after seeing the empty basketball court and the unlit fellowship room.  Decided to start designing the quarterly programme card for the fellowship.  It’s been 3 years since I started designing the cards.  Looking back at all the previous designs, I think the best set is the one done on the first year, I like the simple b/w cartoons with a hint of pastel colors.  Simple is good.

Thankful for the many opportunities to serve my fellowship and church with my cartooning and designing skills since returning to HK.  May God continue to use the gifts He has given me to serve others.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Hopeless HK Government

The biggest local news this morning was our Government’s Chief Executive’s daughter updating her FB status with a bruised photo claiming that she was beaten by her mother.  Police and ambulance arrived at the Government’s House but left without the “victim”.  The Chief Executive called for a public press in the afternoon to turn down any suspicion of home violence, he claimed that his daughter was not beaten but rather suffering from mental illness.  However, the one way defense didn’t seem to clear out the suspicion as the CE’s daughter never appeared in public again and her FB account was being suspended.

Another big news that broke out today was that our Government approved the Airport’s 3rd runway project despite many unresolved controversies and protests.

I’m feeling more hopeless of our HK Government each day.   After all, there’s really nothing you can do about it.

Another Week

I did get more serious with work this week as I promised myself.  I migrated the church’s website (DEMO) to their existing web host, completed the change requests for the only web project I have on hand, and mocked up a poster design for church’s upcoming evangelical meeting.  I got a little proud and started slacking off on Friday.

Had a brief argument with my father over dinner one night.  It was the same old topic about tithing at church, he has the misconception that us Christians are being used by church leaders to help pay for their luxurious lifestyle.  I know that’s false (at least for the church I’m attending), but there’s no way I can argue with my father as he would never go to church to find out the truth himself.

The argument got me thinking quite a bit about work and about my parents and the best way to clear their misconception of Christianity.  It looks like I’ll need to get more serious with work while not sacrificing the time spent with my parents.  Could there be more than 7 days a week?  I could really use more time!

Creative Monday

IMG_1137After spending much of the time last week cleaning up the studio, I told myself that I must seriously get back to work this week, so I particularly cherish this Creative Monday.

I indulged myself today with DIY, cartooning, and oil painting.  I think I’m now ready to start new and get back to work tomorrow, seriously!

Studio Cleanup

The big studio cleanup took a lot longer than I expected, glad to see it now neatly organized into the work, art, and DIY area.

But it didn’t take long for it to get messed up again, it only took an afternoon with 3 curious kids who love to draw.  I invited some friends and their kids over to the studio this afternoon, it was a cozy reunion of some KWCAC b/s.  Despite the mess, I really enjoy seeing the kids having fun drawing on their own.  The thought of teaching kids art sometimes crosses my mind.  Who knows, maybe I’ll actually teach kids the joy of art later as some friends thought I should do.  Is this what God wants me to do too?

CNY Holiday

The CNY has come and gone, I’m thankful for the opportunity to meetup with many friends, the gatherings were so packed that it was almost as though I was making up for the solitary time during my month-long sickness in Dec. & Jan.

I was a bit reluctant to let the holiday pass, so I gently declined a project opportunity this week and used the time to engage in a big cleanup of the studio.  Slowly I’m becoming more clear of what I want to achieve in this wonderful space I was lavishly given stewardship.  May God continue to guide me in work.
